Jimmy E. Wood, 89, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born March 27, 1934 in Coesse, he was the son of Harold and Ellen (Judd) Wood.
He graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1952. Following graduation, Jimmy went to work at GE before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On September 8, 1956, he married Ada R. Dowell. For over 30 years, Jimmy delivered milk for Columbia City Dairy and Babcock Dairy. He also worked at Magnavox, Scotts Grocery and retired in 2013 from Kroger's in Columbia City. He was a faithful member of Mission Church in Fort Wayne and was a Mason.
Jimmy was know for making cookies, he enjoyed watching basketball, and sitting on his front porch. He loved all his family, his church family and his cat, Nut.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ronalyn and Rusty Hogan; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Tina Wood; granddaughter and her husband, Natosha and J.T. Hamm; great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Jace; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Wood; sister-in-law, Phyllis Wood; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 59 years, Ada Wood on August 29, 2014; and brother, Bill Wood.
A service for family and friends will take place 11 am, December 27, 2023 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Stauffer will be officiating. A private burial will take place at Greenhill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife. Memorial donations may be given in memory to Mission Church.
