Christopher Allen Machlan, age 21, of Columbia City, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born June 16, 1998 in Columbia City, Indiana, he was the son of Philip and Heather(Lemley) Machlan.
Chris grew up at Tri-Lakes. He graduated Columbia City High School with the Class of 2016. Chris worked for Forrest River Trailer Factory after high school. He loved playing poker with his family, listening to music, being outdoors trapping, camping and fishing. Chris was outgoing and had a positive attitude with an ornery side and he found joy on picking on his older brother.
He is survived by his mother, Heather Machlan; brother, Michael (Amanda) Machlan; grandmother, Michele Lemley; and aunts and uncles, Tami Machlan, Kenny Lemley, George Lemley and Gary (Brittney Chaney) Lemley. He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Kay Machlan in 2007; grandparents, Miles and Donna Machlan, and Ken Lemley, Jr.; and uncle, Nick Lemley.
Although Chris deserved so much more, due to the social distancing requirements in place, extended family and friends may pay their final respects to him and his family by a drive through viewing under the portico at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City on Monday, May 18, 2020 from 11 until 1 p.m. All people paying their respects are asked to remain in their cars at all times while in line in the funeral home parking lot. Please visit www.demoneygrimes.com to sign his "Tributes" page in place of signing a guest book or to leave his family online condolences and view his funeral service after it has taken place.
A private funeral for his immediate family will be held and he will be laid to rest at St. Matthew's Cemetery beside his father. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made toward his final expenses, in care of DeMoney-Grimes.

Sorry to hear about your loss of your son. I just always remember you going to his rescue when you was working and couldn’t leave. That was a few years ago! I know you loved him a lot.

I'm so sad that you're gone Christopher. I will miss you. I watched your dad love you, care for you, play with you. I know how much he loved you because he showed it in everything he did. I feel some comfort knowing you are with him. Together again. RIP buddy.
Heather, I just heard about Chris. I am so sorry! I subbed at Eagle Tech a few times when Chris was still in school. He had a very ornery grin. I am praying for you. I know from experience how you feel and could not be more sad.

Gary and ENTIRE family. I am so sorry I can’t find the words to express my deepest sympathy. I remember going to hang out and watch the fights with all the guys at Gary and Kenny’s and it was a weekend the boys were there (they were younger then). They would get so excited and put on a show! They’d ask me a million questions! He was a funny boy. I’ll be praying that God will wrap His arms around you, that you will feel His presence in the difficult days to come.
Heather and Michael ,it is so hard to lose a son I have lost 2. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sharon and Logan
