Danny Lin Rice Sr.

Danny Lin Rice Sr., 71, of Columbia City, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021 surrounded by family at his home on Loon Lake. Born October 3, 1949 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of George Jr. and Vada (McClure) Rice.

He grew up on the north side of Fort Wayne in a rural area at the time and attended Northside High School. Danny worked for BF Goodrich in Woodburn for 33 years before retiring. On January 31, 1981, he married Judy Burniston. In the mid 1990's, they moved from Fort Wayne to Columbia City and moved into their home on Loon Lake in 1996. Danny loved fishing, hunting wild turkeys and deer, and restoring antique clocks. He was a member of Sugar Grove Church of God and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, where he served as a past President.  Danny loved his family and was very family oriented.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judy Rice; children, Heather Rice, Renee Howell, Roger Rice, Jennifer Fryback, Danny Rice, Jr., Jason (Elizabeth) Fryback and Megan Rice; brothers, Bob (Nancy) Rice, Steve Rice, George (Lancia) Rice III and Kenny (Bonnie) Rice; sisters, Dianna Maggart and Pam Ewing; daughter-in-law, Melissa Rice, 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and expecting a fourth; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lance Rice in 2008; infant grandson, Colton Burns; brother, Ricky Rice; and infant brother, William Howard.

Visitation will be 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Grable officiating. Burial will take place at Thorn Cemetery.
