Diane Wachter-Kendall

Eva Diane Wachter-Kendall, age 80 of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 5:47 pm on her 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday October 2, 2021, surrounded by her family.  Born on December 13, 1940, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of Vincent and Jeanne (Sprock) Wachter.

On October 2, 1971, she married William R. Kendall in Baltimore, MD.  Diane earned her GED in 1983.  She went on to IPFW to study elementary education and earned her bachelor’s degree with the Class of 1990.  Diane then worked as a preschool teacher at Huntington Headstart.  She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, an avid reader, enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Richard (Bonnie) Kendall of Warsaw, Jay (Cathy) Kendall of Jackson, TN, Kenneth (Theresa) Kendall of Sykesville, MD, Elizabeth Graham (Charley) of Columbia City, Jennifer (Norm) Adkins of Larwill, and Patricia (Steve) Mahoney of Kendallville; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Hank (Lynn) Wachter of Duluth, GA and Frank Morel of Ocean City, MD; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband William Kendall, son Robert Kendall, sister Jeanne Hock, and grandson Wayne Kendall.

Friends may call on Thursday October 7, 2021, from 4:00-8:00 pm at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with reciting of the rosary at 3:45 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday October 8, 2021, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 South Line Street, Columbia City, with calling one hour prior.

Burial in St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
