John L. Schreiner

John Louis Schreiner, 87, of Albion, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Born February 27, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of John and Ida L. (Heine) Schreiner.

Growing up in Lynbrook, New York, John enjoyed playing sports and ran track at Lynbrook High. He graduated with the Class of 1953 and attended college in Oswego, New York. After college, John joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Louisiana where he met his first wife, Judy who was also stationed there. For 20 years, John served on the New York City Fire Department and after retiring, moved to Noble County in Indiana. After Judy passed away, John married Stephanie (Keim) Sipe in 1995. Being a hard worker, John drove school bus and was a substitute teacher at West Noble Schools and for a few years was a dispatcher for the Noble County Fire Department.

John was very giving and would do anything to help others, strong willed, and was a happy man. John found relaxation being outdoors, gardening, tending to his fruit trees and was a gifted woodworker. Over the years, he ran many marathons all over including in Montreal, New York, Boston and even ran up and down all the stairs in the Empire State Building. John also was a collector of model military aircraft, trains, and fire trucks.

John is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Stephanie Schreiner; children, John M. Schreiner, Rick Schreiner, Tim (Susan) Sparks, Christine Reavis and Kara (Ryan) Weber; sister, Beth Donatio, 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death first wife, Judy Schreiner; daughter, Ginger Fuentes; son-in-law, Doug Reavis; and brothers, Tim Schreiner, Bill Schreiner, Don Schreiner.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, November 4, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with visitation two hours prior. Burial will follow at Thorn Cemetery.
