Kay I. Geiger

April 15, 1935 — December 15, 2020

Kay I. Geiger, 85, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 surrounded by her family at home. Born April 15, 1935 in Noble County, she was the daughter of Herbert and Kathryn (Honert) Michael.

She attended Cromwell High School where she was a cheerleader. She graduated with the Class of 1953 and went on to further her education at International Business College. On March 11, 1954 she married, Hugh Geiger. Kay and Hugh were classmates and began dating their Senior year. Hugh knew he wanted to spend his life with Kay and moved back home from college after one day. In 1958, the family moved to Columbia City.

Kay worked for the Whitley County Sheriff's Department and for 20 years, she was the owner of Looking Good Beauty Salon. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had attended both Columbia City First Church of God and Oak Grove Church of God with her family. Kay loved her family dearly and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the best reward a mother could have. She was positive, social and did not complain. Kay was very generous to others and was a doer.

She loved her flowers, enjoyed birdwatching, doing crosswords, and it was not uncommon for her to read 8 books in a week. She was quite talented at sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She made many clothes over the years for family and friends, along with several wedding dresses. Kay also enjoyed fashion, jewelry, QVC and going to garage sales. Her loving family and care takers cared for Kay over the years and they also thank the Peabody Library's Homebound Program and the Woodlands Senior Center for their support and bringing lunch to Kay.

Kay is survived by her children, Linda (Russell) Lehman, Cynthia (Martin) Rossiter, Michael (Sharon) Geiger and Renee (David) Bauer; sisters, Carol Barnard and Nancy Cornwell; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh Geiger in 2015; brother, James Michael; and sister, Donna Clark.

Due to the current Covid Restrictions, there will be a private family service and laid to rest at Sparta Cemetery. Arrangements with DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Woodlands Senior Center or Peabody Public Library.
