Lois McWhirter

October 29, 1929 — June 21, 2021

Lois McWhirter, 91, of Azusa, California, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021. Born October 29, 1929 in Dunfee, Indiana, she was the daughter of Vernon and Hazel Marie  (Wagner) McWhirter.

She grew up in Whitley County and was the sister of  Don A. McWhirter. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School in Whitley County and attended Elkhart Business University from 1947-1948. She worked from 1948-1954 as a secretary with General Electric and International Harvester until 1963. In the fall of 1963, Lois moved from Indiana to San Francisco, California and graduated from Christian Science Benevolent Association with a nursing degree. She took training at the Benevolant Association for 3 years in Sunland Foundation, California and became a graduate nurse with the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, Massachusetts.

In January 1967, she then moved to Elash, Illinois where Lois was employed at Principia College and then in August of 1969, she moved to Tigard, Oregon and was employed with Canterbury Crest. In March of 1981, Lois then moved to Denver, Colorado where she was employed at Wide Horizon in Wheatridge until October of 1982 when she moved to San Diego, California then worked at Sunland Home. Lois then moved to Azusa, California in January of 1998. Lois was a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts and various branches, including First Church of Christ, Scientist, Glendora, California. Also, Lois had been a member of the fraternal organization, Royal Neighbors of America.

Lois will be laid to rest at Washington Township Cemetery by DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, Indiana.
