Lynn LeRoy Faulkner

June 24, 1941 — December 11, 2020

An all around strong, loving, spiritual, and family leader are just a few ways to describe Lynn Faulkner. A few historical events that occurred in 1941 include the President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt began his third term, the movie Dumbo is released, fuel was 12 cents a gallon, and on June 24, 1941 Robert and Joy (Dimmick) Faulkner welcomed the birth of Lynn LeRoy Faulkner in Columbia City, Indiana.

Lynn had a very loving mother and father.  He grew up in the country close to his Uncle's farm and spent a lot of time there.  He also raised rabbits, did farm work, and enjoyed spending time with Kenny Kerch, Stephen Dimmick and Devon Faulkner.

Lynn was a hard worker as a teen.  He helped in construction, farming and lawn mowing.  He earned enough money to buy his first car.  Lynn attended local schools and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1959. He played football and basketball in high school.  Lynn met the love of his life Carole Hearld in his senior year.   On October 6, 1961 Lynn married his high school sweetheart Carole in Columbia City.  As a young adult he also learned about roofing and the value of a hard day’s work.

Lynn earned his PhD. from Purdue University in 1966.  Following his education, Lynn taught mechanical engineering at Ohio State University for 10 years, before moving on to Battelle Memorial Institute until his retirement in 2006.

Lynn enjoyed traveling to Japan, Germany and Alaska for his work.  Being a mechanical and sound engineer he traveled around the U.S. as a noise consultant for Battelle Memorial Institute. He received many awards and achievements, touching the lives of many all over the world. He and Carole also traveled to Hawaii and Israel and enjoyed many years of family get togethers.

Some of Lynn's fondest memories were going to Canada, Lake Erie and Battelle pond to go fishing, often times with family.  Hunting, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren  were also part of his free time.

Lynn enjoyed watching OSU and Purdue football games.  He liked listening to Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass in his younger days.  Lynn enjoyed telling his children when they were young that he was an engineer and he could drive a train.

Lynn had a good outlook on life.  He was very patient, happy, and content with his work and life.  Lynn exceeded his expectations at work. He was extremely successful and well liked.

Lynn was a church going, God fearing, family man. He loved the Lord his family and praying.  His favorite silly words to the grandkids were “Boogity boogity.”

Many looked to Lynn for his guidance and wisdom in good times and bad.  He inspired many and was loved by all that knew him so well.  Lynn will be so very missed but dearly remembered.
