Richard L. Shoddy

October 16, 1932 — August 7, 2022

Richard L. Shoddy, age 89, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 1:05 pm on Sunday August 7, 2022, at Miller’s Oak Pointe, Columbia City.  Born on October 16, 1932, in Griffith, IN, he was the son of Lewis and Catherine (Halsema) Shoddy.

Richard attended local schools and then proudly served his country in the United States Army.  On August 29, 1969 he married Marlene Stubbs in Culver, IN.

He worked for Culver Military Academy as a maintenance mechanic until his retirement.

Richard was a member of Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church and the Culver Union Township Fire Department for 20 years.  He also enjoyed tinkering and woodworking in his free time.

Survivors include his daughter Debra (Ron) Darr of Columbia City; grandchildren Scott Gambrell of Columbia City and Sheena (George) Leugers of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren Cela and Zoie Gambrell and Ana and Mary Cora Leugers; sister Patricia Osborn of Pardeeville, WI

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlene, brother Jack Shoddy, and sister Elizabeth Tharp.

A graveside service for Richard will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday September 10, 2022, at Henry H. Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver, with Military Rites.

Memorial contributions in memory of Richard may be made to Culver Union Township Fire Department.
