Rachel Jane Lane

Rachel Jane Lane, age 91, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 4:14 pm on Friday March 15, 2024, at her residence.  Born on January 31, 1933, in Tipton, IN, she was the daughter of Robert and Jennie (Weakly) Kleyla.

Rachel attended Tipton High school and graduated with the Class of 1951. She later attended International Business College.  While in school she worked at the Diana Theatre and then at Perfect Circle Pistons Rings.  On February 27, 1952, she married Robert Hal Lane at West Street Christian Church in Tipton. While Hal attended Purdue University, Rachel worked in their administration office.  After becoming a mother, she was a full-time homemaker.

Rachel was a member of First Church of God, Columbia City.  She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years and also enjoyed bowling in her free time.

Survivors include her sons Robert “Brian” Lane and Dave (Kim Weaver) Lane, both of Fort Wayne, Mike Lane of Columbia City, and Mark (Mandy) Lane of Osceola; grandchildren Braden Lane, Matthew Lane, Zachary Lane, Abby Lane, and Gavin Lane; siblings Ralph Kleyla of Louisiana and Nita Raquet of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert “Hal” Lane, siblings Jack Kleyla, Wilda Cockrill, and Doris Wallpe, infant granddaughter Emily Lane.

Funeral service for Rachel will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday March 21, 2024, at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with calling from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial contributions in memory of Rachel may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or Autism Foundation.
