Richard C. Martz, Sr.

April 17, 1928 — June 4, 2017

Richard C. Dick Martz, Sr., age 89, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 2:15 pm on Sunday June 4, 2017 at his residence. Born on April 17, 1928 in Etna-Troy Township, he was the son of Clyde Orville and Alta Maryjane (Fox) Martz.

Dick was a lifelong Whitley County resident. He attended Etna-Troy township grade school and Larwill High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On October 15, 1949 Dick married Rose Ellen Gerardot.

Dick worked for Culligan in sales and delivery from 1953-1973, then as a salesman at Buchanan Ford from 1973 to 1980, when he went to work for Trier Ford/Mercury as a salesman until his retirement in 2004. After retirement, he worked for Per-Mar Security.

Dick was a member of First Church of God, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1906, American Legion Post #98, and F AM Masonic Lodge #189, Columbia City. Dick also enjoyed being an avid golfer and fisherman.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years Rosie of Columbia City; children Christine Goodrich of Columbia City, Randall Randy (Dianna) Martz of Claypool, IN, and Richard Rick (Pam) Martz Jr. of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Esta (Mary) Martz of Ocala, FL, Patricia (Bob) Williams of Las Vegas, NV, and Jacqueline Jackie (Tony) Zuniga of Conway, AR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Lloyd, Harold, Ronald, and Alvin Martz, son Timothy Martz, and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Katherine Grace Hertel.

Friends may call on Wednesday June 7, 2017 from 2-4 6-8 pm at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be made to Heartland Hospice.
