Homer Jennings, age 77 of South Whitley, IN, passed away at 5:46 pm on Saturday May 27, 2023, at Timbercrest Senior Living, North Manchester. Born on August 22, 1945, in Morehead, KY, he was the son of Joseph Sherman and Sarah Ellen (Harris) Jennings.
Homer and his family moved to Wabash from Kentucky in 1947. He attended Wabash High School and graduated with the Class of 1964, then earned his bachelor's degree in finance from St. Francis College in 1974. In 1966, Homer married Judith Cleveland, she preceded him in 1990. In 2001, He married Maxella Nicholson, she survives. Homer worked as a finance manager at General Electric for 34 years, until his retirement in 1998, in addition to being a part-time farmer. He was also a member of the GE Elfun Society and a Boy Scout leader. Homer was an avid hunter, fisherman, and mushroom hunter, taking numerous trips hunting and camping all over the country, and his annual fishing trip to Canada. Homer was also a fan of bluegrass music.
Survivors include his wife Maxella Jennings of South Whitley; children Dawn R. Britten of Columbia City and Brian A. (Jackie) Jennings of South Whitley; grandchildren Colleen Britten and Jordyn Jennings; siblings Rita (John) White of Silver Lake and Emil (Shelby) Harris of Lagro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Judith Jennings, and two infant siblings.
Friends may call on Wednesday May 31, 2023, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral services for Homer will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday June 1, 2023, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley.
Memorial contributions in memory of Homer may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Honor Flight Northeast Indiana
