B. Joan Huntley

Barbara Joan Huntley, 84, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 3:40 am on Monday April 27, 2020 at Majestic Care of New Haven. Born August 25, 1935 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Maurice D. and Edna M. (Davis) Hursey.

She attended local schools and graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1953. On August 29, 1953 Joan married Cecil H. Huntley Jr. in Columbia City. She worked at Bond Flex for 25 years and Precision Plastic along with working at S&L Truck Stop for over 30 years, being a part time greeter at WalMart and a cook at the Whitley County Jail. Joan was a member of the Gospel Land Christian Church and the American Legion Post #258 Ladies Auxiliary in Pierceton.

Survivors include her children, Vickie Huntley of Fort Wayne, Tom Huntley of Phoenix, AZ and Nancy (Jim) Mooney of Rochester; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Wyonda "Petey" Rohrer of Columbia City and Ilene Bowers of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cecil Huntley in 2000, son Dale Huntley; brothers Russell and Robert Hursey; and three great-grandchildren.

Due to social distancing requirements in place with the COVID-19 pandemic, family and friends may pay their final respects to Joan by a drive through viewing under the portico at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 10 until 11 am. All people paying their respects are asked to remain in their cars at all times while in line in the funeral home parking lot. A private funeral for her immediate family and siblings will be held where she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Greenhill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Joan's honor toward her funeral expenses.
