Colleen Phyllis Statler, 92, of Albion, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at her daughter's home. Born March 27, 1930 in Allen County, she was the daughter of Chester and Loretta (Allgier) Myers.
Colleen's family moved from Fort Wayne to Green Center in Noble County where she would grow up. As a teenager, Colleen left school to stay at home to take care of her family after their mother passed away. Colleen had a caring heart, was giving and always put others before herself. She worked a few years making soy sauce at the The Oriental Shoyu Factory in Columbia City but was proud to be a homemaker raising her children. On December 3, 1971, she married Harold Statler in Virginia. Over the years Colleen enjoyed bowling, playing bingo at the Columbia City Eagles Lodge, shopping, and having breakfast at the Half Acre Cafe in Albion.
There was not a mean bone in Colleen's body. She was a wonderful mom and adored her grandchildren. Colleen prayed everyday for others, was accepting, and always found the best in others. She was strong willed, a go-getter, and would not ask for help.
Colleen is survived by her daughters, Deb (Al) Gaerte, Denice Schott, Sue (Tom) Asbury and Diane (Paul) Mosley; son, David Hendrickson; brothers, Robert "Bob" (Judy) Myers and Don (Sandy) Myers; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Statler in 2001; son, Dwight Hendrickson in 2020; an infant daughter; son-in-law, Gordy Carter earlier this year; grandson, Matthew Hendrickson; sister, Betty Hall; and brothers, Bill Myers, Jim Myers and Chester Myers Jr.
