David Alan Byers, 72, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. Born November 29, 1950 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Harry Byers and Marjorie Alice (VanCuren) Davis.
A lifelong resident of Tri-Lakes in Whitley County, Dave graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1969. During high school, Dave worked at Pizza King and after serving in the U.S. Air Force at the end of the Vietnam War, he worked for Dana for a short time. For over35 years, he worked for SuperValue/ Food Marketing where he earned his degree in Industrial Maintenance from Ivy Tech.
On May 20, 1983, he married Jeannie L. Girard. After retiring in 2010, Dave had more free time for his loves- family and fishing. He enjoyed being out on Shriner Lake and it was not uncommon to see Dave and his dogs out fishing. He was a ham radio operator with the handle N9VTF and was always tinkering around. He was a member of St. Mathews Community Church and had served on the Whitley County Korean War Veteran’s Honor Guard.
Dave is survived by his son, Will Byers; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and David Miller; grandchildren, Jordan (Austin) Arick, Andrea (Draven) McIntrye, Tracie (Alejandro) Rodriquez and Justin Miller: great-grandson, Brennan; sister, Mary Elizabeth (Doug) Harp; brothers, Daniel Byers, Michael Davis and Jimmy (Paula) Davis; sister-in-law, Carol Byers; sisters-in-law, Jo Hiester, Mary (Rick) Arend, Po (Ed) Dawson Maggie (Rod) Hawkins and Mary Kay Girard; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Byers; wife, Jeannie Byers in December of 2021; AND brothers-in-law, Keith Hiester and John Girard.
Visitation will be 12 to 4 pm, Sunday, March 26, 2023 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday at the funeral home. The Whitley County Korean War Veteran’s Honor Guard will be rendering his military honors. Burial will take place at St. Matthew's Cemetery.
