Jesse DeWayne Lane, age 73, of Columbia City, Indiana passed away Monday, January 22, 2024. Born July 15, 1950, he was the son of Jesse and Mabel Evelyn (Steele) Lane.
DeWayne graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1968. On June 20, 1970, he married Barbara Clem, becoming a loving husband and father of his two children. For 34 years, DeWayne worked at Dana Spicer Axle of Fort Wayne. He was also employed by Weatherhead and Whitley County Courthouse. In his spare time, he was an avid member of the Whitley County Hillbilly Club of the Shriners and the Masons of Columbia City, performing various duties like making delicious elephant ears.
In the summers, you found DeWayne on the golf course, enjoying the ups and downs the game had to offer. He taught everything he knew to his grandchildren, including golf, euchre, and even gave them their first driving lessons. With every grandchild he was able to ride on the school bus with them to the Shriners Circus.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mabel Evelyn, and in laws Ova and Gladys Clem.
Survivors are his wife, Barbara, and their children, Bruce (Dixie) Lane of Columbia City and Christina (Cory) Truex of Warsaw; grandchildren, Macenzie (Zechariah) Ritchie, Tyler Lane, Isabelle Lane, Bailee Lane, Courtney (Johnny) Kessens, and Jessica Thompson; siblings, Brenda (Charles) Ferber, Mary (Dave) Lucas, Joyce Lane, and Joy (Dennis) Bennett.
