Karen Irene Barnhart

Karen Irene Barnhart, age 76, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 3:28 am on Wednesday September 20, 2023, at Parkview Whitley Hospital.  Born on March 21, 1947, in Decatur, IN, she was the daughter of Paul and Virginia (VanWald) Adams.

Karen attended Columbia City Joint High School and graduated with the Class of 1965.  On May 23, 1970, she married Lloyd J. Barnhart in the parsonage at Grace Lutheran Church, Columbia City.  Karen worked at the Columbia City Public Library for several years, then later worked at Walmart until her retirement.

Karen was a longtime member of Merriam Christian Chapel Church and was very involved with their music and drama programs.  She also loved singing, reading Amish novels, crafting, working crossword puzzles, and watching her grandkids at their sporting events.  In addition, Karen enjoyed attending the Ladies Bored meeting nightly.

Survivors include her husband Lloyd Barnhart of Columbia City; children Virginia (Justin) Riffe of Wolf Lake, Dan (Karla) Barnhart of South Whitley, and Matthew (Amy) Barnhart of Brownstown, MI; grandchildren Tyler, Piper, Derek, Harper, and Logan; siblings Mike (Tanya) Adams of Pierceton, Marsha (Greg) Reynolds and Deb (Randy) Vanderford, both of Columbia City; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Virginia and Paul Adams, nephew Timmy Reynolds, and great niece A1C Hayley Reynolds.

Friends may call on Sunday September 24, 2023, from 1:00-4:00 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Funeral services for Karen will be held at 10:00 am on Monday September 25, 2023, at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial contributions in memory of Karen may be made to Merriam Christian Chapel Church.
