After being honorably discharged from the military, Richard married Suzanne (Runge) Wolfe on June 27, 1959. Richard was quite witty, enjoyed joking around and being ornery. He may have been strong willed, but he loved his family, and he loved having a good time. He was an avid golfer and it would not be uncommon to see him play several times in day with friends. He enjoyed traveling, watching westerns and war movies, listening to music and in his own joking words "swimming with bow legged women". He also enjoyed watching sports, especially when it came to college football and basketball.

Along with parents and first wife, Richard was preceded in death by his son, David Wolfe; daughter, Michele Ann Wolfe; sisters, Genny Keirn, Mary Targart, Phyllis Taylor and Barbara Lickey; and brothers, Walter Wolfe Jr. and Donald Wolfe.
