Arden Paul Rider, 96, of Warren, Indiana and formerly of North Webster, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born January 13, 1927 in Etna Township of Whitley County, he was the son of Albert James and Elma Charlotte (Stump) Rider.
He graduated from North Webster High School with the Class of 1944 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. On September 28, 1945, he married Esther Marie Martin. Arden was a livestock and grain farmer and retired from the family farm in 1991. He was a lifetime resident of Whitley and Kosciusko Counties until moving to Heritage Point in Warren in 2010. He had been a member of Etna United Methodist Church, North Webster United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post #253.
Arden is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Rider; daughters-in-law, Nora Kametani and Beth Rider; eight grandchildren, Sean Vyain, Alison Vyain, Justin Rider, Kate (Mike) Parks, Michaela Kametani-Rider, Aaron Kametani-Rider, Cheyenne Kametani-Rider and Dustin Rider; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Vyain and Reeder Vyain; brother, Robert Aaron (Melinda) Rider; sisters, Norma Elma Roose and Joy Ann (Jim) Legett; and brother-in-law, Gail "Speedy" (Carol) Martin. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2020, Esther Martin; sons, David Paul Rider and Aaron Craig Rider; daughter's life partner, Jack Lapinsky; brothers, Neil Orlando Rider, George Eugene Rider and Albert James Rider, Jr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, July 8, 2023 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with visitation beginning at 10 am. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Scott Keister Cemetery. Following the burial, a gathering of family and friends will continue back at the funeral home from 12:30-2:30 pm.
