Betty Jean Bills, 88, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at her home. Born December 19, 1934 in Morocco, she was the daughter of Joseph and Beulah (Lake) Dalton.

She lived in Newton County for the first part of her life and by the end of her grade school, Betty's family moved to Whitley County where she attended Columbia City High School. On July 22, 1960, she married Paul Bills in Columbia City by Rev. Graham L. Kleespie. She had owned Betty's Smart Shop from 1987 to 1999, and also worked in the Assessor & Recorder's office at Whitley County Court House.

Survivors include by her daughter, Nova (David) Richards; son, Denny Bills; son-in-law, Wayne Caudill; brother, Delmar "Joe" Dalton; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Bills in 2018; son, Randy Bills in 2003; daughter, Laurie LaRue Caudill in 2018; sisters, Josie Nester, Grace Loe and Janeile Ternet; brother, Wayne Dalton; and granddaughter, Cora M. Bills Caudill.

Funeral services will be at 10 am, Saturday, January 28, 2023 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at South Park (Annex) Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in memory to the Promedica.
