Keith A. Rieder

Keith Alan Rieder, 70, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at his home. Born March 21, 1953 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Frederick and Margaret "Peggy"  (Hammond) Rieder.

At a young age his family moved to Leesburg where he attended Wawasee High School. He was on the football team, ran track, and played the trombone in the pep band. He went on to graduate with the Class of 1971, then attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and graduated from Purdue University. While working for the Indiana Department of Corrections, Keith was introduced to Areda Brower by a co-worker of hers in Winamac. The two married on October 4, 1980, in Eaton, Ohio where Areda had been raised. Following his 20 year career with Indiana Dept of Corrections, Keith worked for Fox Products in South Whitley as a bassoon Key Mounter and retired in 2021. He also owned and operated ADR Custom Golf.

Growing up, Keith had been Baptized in the Presbyterian Church, and was a  Pi Kappa Alpha  fraternity alumni. He may have been a homebody, but he enjoyed playing golf. Keith was generous, helpful, humble, and he loved animals. He was a great husband and a great father.

Keith is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Areda Rieder; daughter; Amy Rieder; and brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Sheryll Rieder. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 11 to 1 pm Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at St. Matthew's Community Church, 1460 E 500 N, Columbia City. A graveside service will follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,  memorial donations may be given in memory to Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice or St. Matthew's Community Church.
