Marianne VanEmon

Marianne VanEmon, 70, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022 at her home. Born January 1, 1952 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she was the daughter of Alfred and Cornelia (Lemmers) Sopjes.

She graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School with the Class of 1970 and Bronson Hospital of Nursing. On May 16, 1981, she married Brian Van Emon. Marianne had been a nurse with Parkview Huntington, retiring in 2017. She was a member of Whitley County Extension Homemakers and a supporter of the Whitley County 4-H.

Marianne was fun, adventurous, loving, caring and strong willed.  She had a talent for crocheting, needle point and cross stitching. Marianne found relaxation going to their lake cottage on Upper Long Lake and she enjoyed a challenging crossword puzzle in the Sunday paper or New York Times.

Marianne is survived by her husband, Brian VanEmon; daughters, Megan VanEmon and Brandi VanEmon; brother, Kenneth (Karen) Sopjes; and sister, Sue (Daryl) Dykstra. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial gathering will be from 4-7 pm Thursday, December 29, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
