Shirley Palmer

Shirley Ann Palmer, 85, of Columbia City, Indiana and formerly of Larwill, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at her home. Born October 10, 1937 in Auburn, she was the daughter of Paul and Amelia (Miller) Ruppert.

Her family moved from DeKalb to Huntington County where Shirley attended school in Andrews and was proud that she earned her GED in Warsaw in 1980. On August 17, 1963, she married Donald Palmer in Huntington. In 1973 moved to Whitley County and into Columbia City in 2012. Over the years Shirley had worked at Ultra in Huntington from 1976-1979, Whitley Products in Pierceton from 1976-1979, Pierceton Elementary from 1985-2000, Stepping Stones Daycare from 2000-2012, the YMCA Daycare in 2012-2013. She was a member of  St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, and had been a former member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, the Etna-Troy Homemakers Club, Town & Country Home Ec Club, Double Dozen Home Ec., Richland Township 4-H Leader for 6 years, and Larwill Lions Club.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Gregg (Mary) Palmer, Michael (Yvette) Palmer and Robyn (Katie) Palmer; brothers, David Ruppert and Ronald (Janet) Ruppert; sisters-in-law, Sharon Ruppert and Marcia Ruppert; five grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Palmer; brothers, Yetive Ruppert, Philip Ruppert and infant brother, Meredith Ruppert; and sister-in-law Carolyn Ruppert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Monday, January 30, 2023 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 S Line St., Columbia City with calling an hour prior. Her nephew, Father David Ruppert will be officiating. Burial will take place at Van Buren Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
