Uva L. Lesley

Uva L. Lesley, 87, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born December 15, 1933 in Peru, she was the daughter of Frederick and Zora (Marquis) Richardson.

Growing up in Peru, she attended Victory Elementary School and graduated from Peru High School with the Class of 1952. She attended the Brethren Church in Miami County. On December 20, 1953, she married Norman "Mac" Lesley in Dayton, Ohio. In 1962, they moved to rural Whitley County near Roanoke and in 1973 they moved to their home off Raber Road.

Along with being a house wife, Uva worked at a few factories including McGlothan’s in 1951, Bryan’s from 1952-1960 and Essex until 1962. Uva then cleaned homes from 1974-1989 and worked at the Post & Mail from 1992 until retiring in 2000. She was a member of Columbia City First Church of God, NEO, I’NE-A-BI Homemaker Extension and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Uva is survived by her children, Denise (Bill) Chaney, Jeff (Kathy) Lesley, JoEllen Scott, Teresa (Shawn) Wait and Mark (Angie) Lesley; sister, Shirley Klepinger; brother, Jerry Richardson; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Mac Lesley in 2019; sisters, Marjorie Hatten and Doris Grigges; brothers, Glenn Richardson, Herbert Richardson and Joe Richardson; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home with Pastor Johnny McCalister officiating. Burial will take place at South Park Cemetery Annex where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Memorial donations may be given in memory to donor's choice.
